The department’s primary research focus is on national policies for social development. Specific topics include the social environment and other major issues that affect long-term trends, as well as the consequences of social changes in the Chinese society; the targets and effectiveness of social policies, the processes and conditions that give rise to specific social policies, as well as the evaluation of the effectiveness of social policies.
Over the last two decades, researchers in the department have conducted extensive research on such topics as state-society relationships, social organizations and governance, social welfare and service, social policies and social work, social deviance and correction, etc. These research activities have had important effect on policy research and policymaking in China.
The department plans to expand collaborative bases in different regions of China, establish interdisciplinary research center, and strengthen its collaborative relationships with policymaking agencies as well as international research institutions.
